English Language Challenges

Hello, today I’m going to tell you about my experience learning English. When I was in 5 I went to
a school were you could only talk in English and all my classes were made in English, I just went
there for two years but I learn a lot, the school gave me a really strong base.

I believe that being able to express yourself in English is really important for your professional life,
because is a language everybody knows even if it’s just a little bit, and it can be really helpful if you
want to travel or work in other countries, so I think it’s really essential that universities teach this so
you can expand your work opportunities.

I think the blogs are a really good way to practice, because you can talk about things of your interest
and you can also interact with your classmates and know more about their opinions.

The aspect I really need to improve is the way I talk in English because I get really shy like most
people usually do and because of that I don’t practice my pronunciation the way I should, and
pronunciation it’s a really fundamental part of learning a new language because you have to
make people understand what you want to say.

Usually outside of class I just watch series and movies in English and I think listening is a good
way of getting more related to the language but it’s definitely not enough.

It’s great to have English classes in university but I would make an elective more advanced class,
for those who want to improve their English even more, or maybe we already have one I don’t
know about.

CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

I'm studying architecture and we have a new curriculum that has been working for just a few years, so we are kind of an experiment to see if this works, I think the order of the classes is correct but we have some requirements that don't make much sense, like for example if you failed geometry you can't take taller 3, which is the most important class in our career.

About the use of technology, I believe we don't use them properly because we don't have a class where the teacher taught us to use them, so we just learn the basic things on youtube or any website., so I believe that's missing because they demand that we do out works in digital but we have no idea how, also the university only has a few programs for the students and the other programs we use, like Photoshop are not available, so we have to download them and this usually gets our computers filled with viruses.

I think the worst thing is how time-consuming the career is, we spend all day and all night working for taller, and we barely have time to study for our other classes and don't even think about having time to ourselves. Most of our classmates don't even get to sleep because of all the work they have to do.

Also, we have classes that last 5 hours and it's impossible to stay focus that long, so I don't think the schedules are well thought.

Anyway, I like my career but I believe is not well made because of the huge workload we have but I think that's something related to our university and not especially my career. The university should look into this because their students are not having a healthy lifestyle.

PERSONAL OPINIONS

What is your opinion about legalizing abortion in all cases?

I believe every women should get to decide over her body, i believe abortion should be a basic right because forcing a woman to be a mom it’s extremely violent, motherhood should be planned and wanted, not forced.

But i also think that we should make sexual education obligatory because in a lot of cases 

girls get pregnant because the lack of sexual education or because they don’t have access 

to contraceptives. So sexual education should be taught to avoid abortion, because I don’t 

think any woman would want to get one.

What is your opinion about obstetric violence?

I think having a child (when wanted) is one of the most important things in a parent’s life, 

actually I wanted to be an obstetric nurse before I studied architecture.

I believe obstetric violence is terrible because women are too vulnerable and scared when 

they are in labor, so the environment should be comfortable to be reminded as a beautiful 

experience and not a torture. Obstetric doctors and nurses should respect the woman in 

labor and not make her feel weak.

What is your opinion about "vertical ghettos"?

I think life quality is a right everyone should get no matter them social status. Vertical 

ghettos are a bad solution to a lot bigger problem which is overpopulation in the cities, 

cities usually mean more work opportunities so a lot of people come to live in Santiago 

from another parts of the country. I think the solution to this kind of problems is to stop 

concentrating everything in Santiago and start spreading the "opportunities" to other 

towns in the country, so people do not have to leave their home to come here.

What is your opinion about legalizing marijuana and other drugs?

I believe marijuana could be legalize without any trouble, it’s not a dangerous drug and 

it’s actually really good for some health issues, I have a cousin that has epilepsy and when 

his mom discovered marijuana oil, all of he’s seizures stopped and he’s much better now, 

sadly all of this is illegal so she’s always in risk when she only wants to take care of his son.

The best holidays

The best vacation i had was in Chiloé a few years ago, i think it was in 2015, it was a huge summer camp for scouts all over the country, we were like 2000 persons in a big park in Castro.

I went there with my scout group, we first went to Lican Ray for a week to a friend’s house and then we took a bus to Puerto Montt and finally we got to Castro in the island of Chiloé.

We did a lot of activities and trips to other places in the island, like caves and national parks, in the camp we had a lot of problems with the water, because there wasn’t any, so getting out of there and getting to know new places was the best thing we could do, besides the food in the camp was awful.

I was really young and I had never been that far away with my friends, and beside the bad things the trip was great and we had a lot of fun.
